Congratulations to Kate Swayze who was awarded Second Place for her painting “Hankster”

This year’s “Rising Eyes of Texas” exhibition includes the work of Painting students Aleah Burns and Kate Swayze. The “Rising Eyes of Texas” is a yearly collegiate juried and prestigious exhibition showcasing paintings, sculptures, video art, prints, and more by select Texas undergraduate and graduate visual arts students exhibited at the Rockport Center for the Arts through April 20th, 2026.

This year’s juror is Sara Morgan, Director of the Art Museum of South Texas.  The top three Best of Show to share in the $1,150 purse.

Congratulations to Kate Swayze who was awarded second place for her painting “Hankster”.

Swayze depicts her immediate family through the replication of family photographs and imbues her paintings with affixed painting rag scraps, indicating her personal relationship to the individual and how she views them through precise selection of color and mark.

Aleah Burns painting “Virtually Fragmented” explore the complexities of the human relationship with digital technology and how, more than ever before, people spend hours each day slipping in and out of worlds that exist beyond our own through our screens.

If you find yourself in Rockport or nearby, make a point of stopping by and seeing this wonderful exhibition.

Congratulations to both Kate and Aleah on this wonderful achievement!
