Overview and Facilities
The Department of Art and Art History at Baylor offers a concentration on graphic design within the BFA Studio Art major. The graphic design concentration introduces students to conceptual strategies, typography, branding, publication, and packaging. Our students gain a solid foundation in problem-solving, critical thinking, technology, and craftsmanship while they prepare for careers in the visual communications marketplace.
We offer courses in typography, corporate identity, packaging, publication design, user experience, and brand experience. Additionally, all our students culminate their studies with a portfolio course, which prepares them to enter the creative industry workforce. We occasionally offer optional special topics courses and an elective professional internship course. The graphic design curriculum is taught in a studio environment with Apple® Mac Studios, ViewSonic Monitors, and 4k widescreens for digital presentations. Our graphic design lab offers students access to digital color printing, large-format printing, a vinyl and die cutter, and commercial binding equipment.
Our students’ work has been recognized in international, national, and regional design competitions such as AIGA Flux, American Advertising Federation, GDUSA, Graphis New Talent, and the National Student Show and Conference.
